2017 HSTE President's Welcome Message

Since our project called HSTE started in June of 2011, the Hawaii Society for Technology in Education has been led by a strong team of talented and dedicated educators who have guided the nonprofit to offer many great values to its members. This year, I am immensely grateful and humbled to pen the 2017 President’s Welcome and wish all of HSTE’s current and prospective members a Happy New Year.

Recognition is due to our 2016 Past President, Michael Fricano, who has added a number of workshops, introduced new awards, and significantly increased sponsorships over the last year. Thankfully, Michael will remain on the executive board and will continue such exemplary work. I am also thrilled to announce our newly promoted 2018 President Elect, Nathaniel Evslin, who has represented HSTE on Kaua’i by showing how a neighbor island committee can build excitement for teaching and learning. Please take a moment to review our board representation and learn about HSTE’s four new members.

Let’s hope for a year of expanded partnerships, creative collaborations, and increased member participation. HSTE will continue our great relationships with ISTE, HAIS, the HIDOE, and we will play an integral role in coordinating the Schools of the Future Conference, Hawaii Education Leadership Summit, and EdCamp Honolulu. HSTE should continue to be your “go to” resource for educational professional development. Look for our frequent Meet & Greets (upcoming March 7) and continued PD offerings, like EdCamp Kaua’i and interisland workshops.

You too can help us to provide great opportunities and be even more valuable to HSTE’s many members by attending events and through committee involvement. Visit the HSTE website to join us, or to log in and update your member profile and contact information. Tell your friends about HSTE by sharing, adding, liking, circling, and following our HSTE social networks!

I look forwarding to serving and connecting with all of you this year! Let us all make 2017 another productive year for HSTE!

Sincerely,

Melissa Handy

2017 HSTE Board President
